Tajikistan H1 2026: 31,900 imported cars — Korea leads count, China leads value and EVs
Customs Service: ~31,900 passenger cars in Jan–Jun 2026, $350.3 million (+5.6% units vs H1 2025). Korea 11,256 units ($73.1m); China 9,386 ($140.2m). At least 7,069 EVs (22.2%); China supplied 6,875 of them (97.3%).
Tajikistan’s Customs Service, as reported by Asia Plus (31 July / 2 August 2026), counted about 31,900 imported passenger cars in January–June 2026, value USD 350.3 million (6.7% of all goods imports). Volume was +1,695 units versus H1 2025 (+5.6%).
By origin: South Korea 11,256 cars (USD 73.1 million) — first by count. China 9,386 cars (USD 140.2 million) — first by value.
Electrics: at least 7,069 EVs (22.2% of the passenger import count; USD 113.3 million, almost a third of the value). China 6,875 of those EVs (97.3%, about USD 109.7 million). Other EV origins in the same print: Japan 82, USA 43, Korea 33, Germany 22.
2025 full-year customs (Karimzoda): 63,961 passenger cars, China 28% of origin share; EV imports (cars, buses, trolleybuses) worth 1.181 billion somoni were duty-exempt. Dushanbe taxi-to-EV rules and a 2030 electrification target are domestic policy, not a 2026 duty holiday for every VIN — confirm the current exemption with Customs.
Desk takeaway: Dushanbe still counts Korean used petrol first and pays more per unit for Chinese (often electric) CBU. Keep the two lanes on separate quotes.
